BANGALORE: Twelve candidates are finally in the fray for the Banashankari bypoll. Thursday was the last day for withdrawal of nominations.
"Among the 19 aspirants, 7 withdrew their nomination papers," said returning officer Avinash Babu.
The BJP is fielding Basavaraj A H; Anwar Pasha S (Congress); Mohammed Akbar(JD-S); Sheikh Wajid (JD-U); B N Raghu (CPM) are there are seven independent candidates.
Afsar Khan (25), who is in jail on charges of murdering Banashankari corporator and rowdy Diwan Ali, is among those contesting as independents.
Khan, an undertrial in Bellary jail, filed his nomination through his advocate. He has chosen `pen' as his poll symbol.
Elections will be held on June 26.
