Mangaluru: Mangaluru City North MLA Bharath Shetty has urged police to cancel the upcoming Eid Milad procession scheduled for Monday, citing concerns about a potential plot by fanatics to create unrest.
Shetty alleged that the leaders of a prominent Hindu organisation have been provoked on social media, with a voice message challenging them to come to Kaikamba if they have the guts.
The message claimed they could gather a thousand people and were prepared to retaliate. He emphasised that Hindus are not the ones attempting to incite violence, but warned that if police fail to act, it could lead to violence in the district.
In light of these developments, Shetty expressed concerns about individuals deliberately creating situations that could result in untoward incidents during the procession. He urged immediate action against those attempting to incite violence and demanded the district authorities issue an order to cancel the the procession to ensure peace and order.
Meanwhile, Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik U has called on Dakshina Kannada SP Yathish N to arrest Mohammed Sharif, former president of Bantwal TMC, for allegedly issuing threats to VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell through a voice message shared on social media. The message can incite communal unrest, he claimed.
MLA Naik stressed the importance of immediate legal action, warning that Sharif's actions could disrupt peace in areas like BC Road.
SP Yathish N said security arrangements have been enhanced and that a case is being filed based on a complaint.
