<div class="section1"><div class="Normal">BANGALORE: Chief Justice of India V N Khare and his bench is expected to hear two petitions from Karnataka and one from Kerala on Thursday regarding admissions to professional colleges.<br /><br />The Consortium of Private Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges in Karnataka (COMED) has moved the apex court challenging the Karnataka High Court order of June 30, which has upheld the government''s seat matrix of 75:50.

<br /><br />The court stipulated that 75 per cent of seats in unaided private professional colleges should be filled through the CET and the remaining 25 per cent by the managements. <br /><br />In unaided private minority colleges, it is 50 per cent each for both categories. <br /><br />An apex court vacation bench had refused to interfere with the high court order, saying Comed''s counsel should come back with an alternative proposal before the CJI. <br /><br />The other petition expected to be heard on Thursday has been filed by the Islamic Education Society, which has demanded that the right to admit students should remain with it. <br /><br />The Kerala government has also filed a petition challenging the Kerala High Court order, which has stipulated a seat matrix of 75 per cent for managements and 25 per cent for the government. <br /><br /><span style="" font-weight:="" bold="">Selection begins today </span><br /><br />The CET Cell will begin the seat-selection process for professional colleges in Karnataka on Thursday. All candidates claiming eligibility for physically disabled quota have to appear before the medical committee at the cell premises at 10 am. <br /><br />The seat-selection process will begin at 3 pm for eligible students, the Cell said on Wednesday. <br /><br />Selection process for students claiming eligibility under sports special category seats will be held on Friday at 10 am with verification of sports certificates. Seat-selection will be held on Saturday at 10 am. <br /><br />Students claiming eligibility under the NCC special category should verify their certificates on July 14 at 10 am and seat-selection under the category will be on July 15 at 10 am. <br /><br />The Cell has advised students to bring original documents along with two sets of attested photocopies of the same in addition to demand drafts (DDs) drawn in favour of the special officer, CET Cell, Bangalore. </div> </div>
