MPCA under fire for under-13 cricket tourney in heatwave

Bhopal: As blistering summer heat forces school closures across multiple districts in MP, the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) has come under fire for going ahead with Under-13 cricket tournaments, putting young players at risk.The Rameshwar Pratap Singh Trophy began on April 25, featuring players of under 13 age from various districts. Matches are being played under punishing temperatures in several areas, including Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur. Doctors have raised serious alarms about the health hazards. "Prolonged exposure to extreme heat can lead to heat exhaustion, cramps, and even life-threatening heatstroke in children, whose bodies are less equipped to regulate temperature," warned Dr. Lalit Jain.Worried parents, including some from Bhopal, have urged MPCA to suspend cricket activities. "My son came home dizzy and vomiting. MPCA should postpone the games," said mother of a player in Sagar district. "We are keeping a close watch on the rising temperatures," stated Rohit Pandit, CEO of the MPCA. "We assess the situation before the match. On several occasions, we have concluded the match within half a day." Sources said that while safety protocols like water breaks and other provisions are in place, no immediate suspension is planned. Parents have now petitioned the state sports department for timely intervention.
