Congress worker beaten to death in first post-poll violence case in West Bengal; party blames TMC

ASANSOL: A 43-year-old man was allegedly attacked and beaten to death by miscreants on Friday night near his home at Kanyapur, Asansol, in West Burdwan, after which police detained two persons.Congress netas said the victim was a party supporter and that the assailants were Trinamool supporters.The incident triggered tension in Asansol on Saturday and could be the first instance of post-poll violence following a peaceful first phase of voting on Thursday. Police said a they have started a probe.The victim, Debdip Chaterjee (43), lived in Kanyapur housing Naba Anyanya apartment. The body has been sent for post-mortem at Asansol district hospital.Debesh Chakraborty, district Congress president, said those involved should be immediately arrested.
