No liquor, big clash: Madhya Pradesh wedding guests attack bride as groom refuses to serve alcohol
GWALIOR: A dispute over serving liquor at a wedding in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district turned violent, with a group of guests allegedly attacking the bride, groom and their family members, police said on Wednesday. The incident occurred on Tuesday night in Patai village under the Aron police station area, where several members of the groom’s family were injured. The accused also allegedly took away household items and cash during the attack. According to police, Mahesh Jatav, the groom, a resident of the village, was getting married when some neighbours demanded alcohol at the celebration, leading to an argument. When the groom refused to arrange or pay for liquor, the situation escalated into a physical clash between the two sides. The groom’s mother, Sheela, said the trouble began soon after the bride arrived at their home and wedding rituals were underway. She alleged that a few neighbours came and asked her son for money to buy liquor. When the demand was refused, the group allegedly attacked the groom and other family members. She further claimed that when she tried to stop them, the neighbours also assaulted her, her husband and the bride.
