After families opposed their relationship, teen couple attempts suicide; girl dies, boy critical

Jabalpur: In a tragic incident stemming from a relationship not approved by the family, a teenaged couple consumed a poisonous substance in Jabalpur district. While the girl, 19, died, the boy is battling for his life at the hospital.According to information from SDOP Sihora, Parul Sharma, a 17-year-old boy from Dinari Khamaria village, and 19-year-old girl from Bahoriband in Katni district had been in a relationship for about three years. They wanted to get married, and their families were aware of their relationship. However, the families were not willing to approve the marriage and opposed the relationship as the boy was younger to the girl by two years.The boy called the young woman to his village around 5 pm on September 9 and the couple went to a field and consumed some poisonous substance. Villagers found them unconscious and informed their families. The families took them to Sihora hospital for treatment. After an initial examination, doctors declared the young woman dead.The boy was referred to the medical college hospital in Jabalpur for further treatment. His condition remains critical, and he is battling between life and death.The police have sent the young woman's body for post-mortem after completing primary formalities. A case has been registered and is under investigation.
