Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday decided to charge a user fee for different categories of waste generators, including households.Swachh Sathis have been instructed by BMC to collect user fees from their respective wards. These fees will be collected from permanent residents, businesses, commercial establishments, educational institutions and other organisations. “They (cleanliness partners) also received training for the task,” BMC additional commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo said.Mayor Sulochana Das urged everyone to work together to make Bhubaneswar a top city in terms of cleanliness by paying the user fee. “We appeal to the residents to take the initiative and come forward to pay the fee. We carry out different activities like door-to-door waste collection, source segregation and transportation to ensure a sustainable and robust cleanliness system,” she added.Issuing guidelines, civic body officials said that people should transfer waste only to BMC vehicles and keep wet, dry and hazardous waste separately. People have been asked not to litter waste indiscriminately. “People should take steps to prevent air pollution by not burning waste,” the officials said.BMC officials said citizens can obtain more information through the ‘Safa App’ or BMC's dedicated WhatsApp number (7653011832).
