Balasore: A 36-year-old man and his seven-year-old daughter were killed after a speeding truck hit their motorcycle on National Highway 16 near Uttareshwar under Soro police station limits in Balasore district on Sunday.The deceased were identified as Manoj Das, a resident of Rahania village under Bhandaripokhari block in Bhadrak district, and his daughter. According to sources, they were returning home on a motorcycle from Balasore. As they approached Uttareshwar, a speeding truck allegedly rammed into their motorcycle from behind, throwing them on the road.Before they could escape, they came under the wheels of the truck, dying on the spot. The traffic on the Balasore-Bhubaneswar stretch of NH-16 was disrupted for almost an hour.Soro police recovered the bodies, and sent them to Soro sub-divisional hospital for post-mortem. The truck was seized, and an investigation is underway.
