Shimla: Himachal chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday inaugurated 3 Tesla MRI diagnostic machines worth Rs 23 crore at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla.Sukhu, while addressing the gathering, said the nearly 20-year-old MRI machine at IGMC was replaced with cutting-edge technology comparable to that used at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He emphasised that the state govt is committed to modernising healthcare institutions and ensuring access to advanced diagnostic facilities within the state. The chief minister said similar high-end medical technologies are being introduced in govt medical colleges at Tanda, Shimla, Hamirpur, Nerchowk, and the upcoming facility at Chamiyana in Shimla. With the installation of the new MRI machine, patients will no longer need to travel outside Himachal for specialised diagnostic procedures, saving both time and money. During his interaction with specialists, he announced that IGMC's orthopaedics department would be upgraded to world-class standards. Plans are underway to introduce robotic orthopaedic and spine surgeries, along with advanced ICUs for medicine, paediatrics, and respiratory diseases.
He also directed exposure visits for specialists to premier medical institutions in India and abroad, and reviewed ongoing development works to ensure their timely completion.
