Chandigarh: Accusing Majitha deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Kamalmeet Singh of "misconduct", Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA from Majitha Ganieve Kaur Majithia on Wednesday submitted complaints to state election commission (SEC), Punjab, and director general of police (DGP), seeking action against the officer.
When contacted, the DSP refuted the claims and said video of the incident showed he did not misbehave.
Alleging that the DSP "misbehaved" with her in "a disrespectful and intimidating manner" on May 18 despite her being a "member of the Punjab vidhan sabha", Ganieve, who is wife of senior SAD functionary Bikram Singh Majithia, also wrote to the Punjab assembly speaker, requesting him to take cognisance of the incident and consider privilege proceedings against the officer.
In the complaints, Ganieve stated that the DSP also misbehaved with women councillors and female workers, when contenders belonging to different parties were standing outside the SDM office since 9.30 am in "scorching heat along with their children and family members on the day of scrutiny of nomination papers" for the May 26 elections to urban civic bodies.
She sought an impartial inquiry and action against the officer. She also requested that the officer be transferred out during the election period for free, fair and impartial elections.
In the complaint to DGP, the SAD MLA requested a departmental inquiry and disciplinary action against the DSP. DSP Kamalmeet refuted all the allegations. "There was no misconduct on my part. Thew videos are for everyone to see," he said.
