Even as the Cabinet Committee on Security led by PM Narendra Modi met on Wednesday evening, sources said the government is likely to soon announce a successor to the country’s first-ever CDS Gen Bipin Rawat.

Senior Army officials, Tamil Nadu ministers and Army veterans laid wreaths and paid floral tributes to the mortal remains of the deceased persons at the Madras Regimental Centre at Wellington. The mortal remains of the crash victims in caskets wrapped in the Indian tricolour were brought to the venue in decorated army trucks.
I pray for the general and his companions and offer my heartfelt condolences to the members of the families of all those who perished in this unfortunate accident. I salute General Rawat's long-standing contribution in the service of the nation.
