Man steals 25L from van carrying ATM cash in Chennai, held

Chennai: Vignesh Kumar, 27, a driver employed by Hitech Cash Management, has been arrested for stealing 25 lakh in cash from a van used to replenish ATMs of private banks in Chennai. The company handled cash replenishment services for ATM centres of various private banks across the city. Police said 8 lakh was recovered from him. During a routine cash reconciliation process conducted by the company, Aravindan, the manager of the firm, noticed a shortage of funds. CCTV footage from inside the van reportedly showed Vignesh removing cash from boxes in the vehicle while company staff replenished cash at an ATM centre. He remained alone inside the vehicle during the cash-loading operation and used the opportunity to steal 25 lakh from the cash boxes. Police registered a case, tracked down and arrested Vignesh Kumar.tnn
