Chennai: A day after a fire t at software firm Tech Mahindra at Sholinganallur, Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services conducted a mock drill at the 92m-high World Trade Centre building on Old Mahabalipuram Road near Semmancherry on Saturday. The two-hour-long drill was carried out under the supervision of fire and rescue director and DGP Seema Agarwal, with around 50 residents participating. A team of 20 fire personnel created artificial smoke conditions and demonstrated rescue operations using a 104ft skylift. They also carried out a rescue simulation involving a person trapped inside a smoke-filled area. Regarding the fire at the Tech Mahindra premises, an official said that five fire tenders were deployed to the location after the emergency call was received. Inspection revealed that the fire originated from scrap materials dumped in an open area and inside dilapidated structures. The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes, and no injuries were reported, said the official.
