Dispute over cricket match leads to youth’s murder in Krishnagiri
KRISHNAGIRI: A 19-year-old youth was murdered in Krishnagiri town on Tuesday evening, a month after a quarrel broke out between two groups over a cricket match. Police on Wednesday arrested four suspects in connection with the murder.The murdered youth has been identified as Akash of Jyothi Vinayagar Koil Street who was a daily wage earner. Akash was part of a group that had clashed with another group during a cricket match on the Palayapettai Government Boys Higher Secondary School ground a month ago. The rivalry between the two groups continued, leading to repeated confrontations.On Monday, Abreet,19, from the other group was attacked near Akash’s house by someone. Police said it was not known who had attacked Abreet. He was admitted to Krishnagiri Government Medical College and Hospital with injuries. Enraged over this, Abreet’s friends went in search of Akash. They found him at a petrol bunk near the Old Housing Board Colony on Tuesday. "The group confronted him. In the ensuing fight, Akash was stabbed with a knife," said a police officer at the Krishnagiri town police station.
Akash died while being rushed to a private hospital by locals.Police recovered the body and sent it for postmortem. They registered a case and arrested Shakool, 19, Noorullah,19, Shanawas,29, and Purushothkumar, 25, of Mahendra Nagar. The arrested men were remanded in judicial custody. Police said they were questioning three more suspects in the case.
