NEW DELHI: A city court on Friday sentenced two youths, both below 25 years of age, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for gang-raping a woman. A third accused in the case was acquitted.
The court of additional sessions judge H P Sharma also imposed a fine of Rs 7,000 on both the convicts, Hari Om and Hari Kishan.
The third accused, Raj Kapoor was set free by the court due to lack of evidence against him.
The victim reportedly could not identify him.
The incident took place at about midnight on November 13, 2002 at Ambrahi village in Dwarka area. The victim, who lived in the same neighbourhood as the two convicts, was about 4-months pregnant at that time.
The convicts, along with another associate, had barged into the victim''s house at about midnight by breaking open the door. They were armed with a knife and a screwdriver.
The victim''s husband, who was also present in the house at the time reportedly pleaded with the accused to spare his pregnant wife. The accused, however, raped her in turns.
Both the convicts are cousins. The victim later identified them as they live in the same area. Handing down the judgment, the court observed that the accused did not deserve any leniency.
