NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old pregnant woman died after allegedly falling from her in-laws' house in a multistoreyed building in northeast Delhi's New Mustafabad on Monday, with police registering a case of dowry death.Police received information about the admission of a woman in a hospital who had sustained injuries. She was brought to the hospital by her husband but was declared dead by doctors. Her family alleged she had been facing harassment over dowry demands ever since her marriage. Alleging foul play, her brother told TOI, "He would ask my sister for her jewellery and ask to bring more so he could sell it and buy an e-rickshaw. He would hit her."She used to tell me that her husband tortured her and kept demanding dowry. She got married only three months ago, and recently she had started pleading with me to take her back home, otherwise he would kill her. I want justice for my daughter,” the woman’s mother told reporters. Her sister claimed, “They got married just three months ago and had been fighting continuously for the last 2-3 days. My elder brother and other relatives had gone there as well after an argument related to a room. They had been in a relationship for nearly 10 years before getting married”. A postmortem was conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death. After a magisterial inquiry was conducted, a senior police officer confirmed that a case has been registered under section 80 (dowry death) of BNS on Tuesday.
