GHAZIABAD: Two youths were killed and three others were injured after a Maruti Swift car in which they were travelling collided with the divider on NH-58 under the jurisdiction of Modinagar police station on Thursday early morning.
According to police, the deceased were identified as Ankit Kumar, a resident of Loni, Ghaziabad, and Aadesh Kumar, a resident of Kunda, Meerut.
The injured persons are Kuldeep, Adesh Pal and Himanshu, residents of Meerut.
Bhaskar Verma, ACP of Modinagar, said that the incident took place around 5.30 am and police got the information about the accident at 5.40 am from a commuter on Dial 112.
“We received the information that a Maruti Swift vehicle bearing registration number UP15DJ1685, travelling towards Meerut, met with an accident at Pillar Number 1196 in front of the State Employees Insurance Commission Office, Modinagar. Upon receiving the information, the police station personnel reached the spot,” he said.
“The said vehicle is badly damaged and 4 persons inside the vehicle were found drenched in blood, while another one person had come out of the vehicle and was standing near the vehicle in an injured condition. Police took them all to a nearby hospital for medical attention where two succumbed to injuries and treatment of others is underway,” Verma said.
“So far, police suspect that the driver of the car fell asleep and due to high speed, the driver didn’t control the vehicle and collided with the divider. After the collision, the car went turtle on the road several times,” Verma said.
“The damaged vehicle was removed from the road and placed on the roadside. Initial investigation revealed that the victims were returning to their home in Meerut from Ghaziabad. We are checking the CCTV cameras of the area and an investigation is underway,” he said.
