2 Tripura cops remanded in 7-day police custody over Rs 50cr scam
Agartala: Two police personnel detained earlier along with three others in connection with a Rs 50-crore financial fraud have been sent to seven-day police custody by a local court. All of them were picked up for questioning after a cash display video went viral three days ago.The duo has been identified as Menaka Debbarma, a female constable serving at East Agartala Women’s Police Station, and Ajit Debbarma, a rifleman belonging to the TSR 14th Battalion.Menaka and Ajit were detained after Sanchana Debbarma, one of the five detained who is employed in the state health department, lodged an FIR. The other two detained persons are constable Pijush Debbarma and his wife Nandarani Debbarma, also a constable.In the viral video, Nandarani was seen showcasing bundles of cash to Sanchana at their home, raising significant public curiosity. After this, the DGP tasked DIG Northern Range, Rati Ranjan Debnath, to initiate an inquiry. During interrogation, police recognized Sanchana Debbarma, a health department employee, as a crucial figure and detained her for questioning.SDPO Nirupan Dutta said, “We cannot share any additional information about the case until our investigation concludes. Our primary objective is to get to the root of the crime and recover the funds as soon as possible.”
