B’deshi man returns home after spending night in no-man’s land
Shillong: A Bangladeshi man, caught in a tense stand-off between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), returned to his homeland on Thursday morning after spending the night in no-man’s land along the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya. The individual has been identified as Sati Rajbanshi, son of Baghbatta of Chalna village under Narayanpur post office and Gudagari Police Station in Bangaldesh’s Rajshahi district.Rajbanshi was allegedly attempting to illegally cross into the Indian territory when he was intercepted by the BSF.The incident led to heightened tensions along the border at Nandirchar in Meghalaya’s South West Garo hills district near Mahendraganj, with videos of the altercation widely circulating on social media. The footage showed BGB personnel from Bangladesh’s Jamalpur and BSF personnel on the Indian side engaged in a heated altercation over the nationality and identity of the person. After hours of the standoff and flag meetings between the two forces, authorities reached a resolution, allowing the Bangladeshi national to return to his homeland.
