Biren and Conrad seek action over racial assault of 2 from NE in Delhi
Imphal/Shillong: Leaders from Manipur and Meghalaya have condemned an alleged racially motivated assault on two people from the northeast near the Saket Court Complex in New Delhi, with calls for swift investigation and stringent action.Former Manipur CM N Biren Singh said the incident is “completely unacceptable” and urged swift investigation and action. He added that people from the northeast must feel safe and be treated with dignity across the country.

The National People’s Party (NPP) also raised concern. “This is extremely tragic. Enough is enough. Such acts must stop. People from the northeast contribute to nation-building, and the entire country must stand united in condemning such incidents,” NPP national vice president Irengbam Hemochandra said.NPP national general secretary Mmhonlumo Kikon said, “One of the problems is that we refuse to acknowledge that racial discrimination exists in this country.”“If it did not exist, such repeated and continuous incidents of violence against people from our region would not occur,” he stated. Kikon said the NPP “unequivocally condemns” such acts and urged state governments to create mechanisms to protect Northeastern residents from racial discrimination and violence, and called for stronger law enforcement action.
Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma also condemned the alleged assault. “The physical attack on two of our people from Manipur and Assam near Saket Court, Delhi is sickening. Racial bullying should not be accepted as the new normal and we must act against it. Urge the authorities to take stringent action,” Conrad conveyed through the social media.
