Sapdanga said Champhai is a key focus area for the anti-drug campaign
AIZAWL: Dedicated to combating the pervasive issue of drug trafficking, Mizoram’s newly appointed home minister K Sapdanga initiated his first official visit with a twoday tour to Myanmar bordering Champhai district. The border town, recognised as a primary conduit for illicit drugs, stands at the forefront of the anti-drug campaign, as declared by Sapdanga.Sapdanga said while eastern Mizoram is recognised for its diverse positive contributions, it is disheartening to note that it also serves as the main route for smuggled goods from Myanmar.“The government is determined to exert maximum efforts to address this issue and earnestly appeals for public cooperation. We will start the task of revitalizing Mizoram starting with Champhai,” he addedSapdanga was accompanied by Lalnghinglova Hmar, MoS for excise & narcotics, who previously served as his trusted aide in Vanglaini, the largest circulated Mizo daily newspaper edited by Sapdanga before entering politics.Echoing the commitment expressed by the CM, Hmar emphasised the government’s determination to wage a robust battle against drugs. “As the minister overseeing the excise & narcotics portfolio, I recognise the indispensable role of public leaders, party leaders and church leaders, in addition to law enforcement agencies, in successfully undertaking this war on drugs — a task that demands unified efforts and cooperation,” he said.On the way to Champhai, the home minister and the MoS for excise & narcotics visited Saitual district HQ and police battalion HQ at Khawzawl where they interacted with officials.
