Tripura court sentences man to life for killing mother-in-law
Agartala: The district and sessions court in South Tripura sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of his mother-in-law in Sept 2022, and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.Prosecutors said the murder took place between 1:30am and 2 am on Sept 29, 2022, at Ramsundar Para in Belonia, where the accused, Satyajoy Tripura, was staying at his in-laws’ home. He strangled the victim, Unati Reang, while she was asleep. Investigators said he was under the influence of alcohol.

Police registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC at Baikhora Women Police Station. Sub-Inspector Ruma Noatia led the investigation, and the charge sheet listed 14 witnesses. During trial, public prosecutor Subrata Chakraborty represented the state; the court examined 13 witnesses before convicting the accused.
