Gavi Mutt to open Rs 60cr gurukul campus for girls in Koppal
Koppal: A state-of-the-art residential PU college for girls, established under the guidance of Abhinava Gavisiddheshwara Swami of Gavi Mutt, will be inaugurated on May 3, near Kolur-Katralli in Koppal taluk. Built at a cost of Rs 60 crore on a 48 acre campus, the Gurukul aims to provide quality education to rural and economically weaker students without charging donations. The institution will begin operations in the 2026–27 academic year with Science (PCMB) and Arts (HEGP) streams. Admissions are open for first-year PUC, with integrated coaching for competitive exams such as JEE, NEET, CET and ICAR for science students, and CSE, CLAT and CUET for arts students.Applicants must be Karnataka residents and have passed SSLC in 2026 with at least 60% marks. Science aspirants should have secured a minimum of 60% in Mathematics and English, while arts candidates must have 60% in Social Science and English. Selection will be through a 120-minute entrance test based on class 9 and 10 syllabus, followed by an interview. The gurukul will admit 600 girl students in the first phase, with plans to expand capacity to 2,000 students.
Separate long-term coaching streams for science students are also proposed. Education and boarding will be free, with students required to pay only for food."Our aim is to ensure that rural and poor students are not denied quality education due to their inability to pay hefty donations. High-tech education and competitive exam coaching must reach such students, especially girls," Abhinava Gavisiddheshwara Swamiji said. The campus features a high-tech academic block with 14 classrooms, four laboratories, smart classrooms and a digital library. Residential facilities include multiple dormitories, supervisor rooms and first-aid units. A modern dining hall with automated cooking systems, capable of serving 1,600 students at a time, has also been built. In addition, the campus houses a six-acre sports complex with a 400-m athletics track and facilities for volleyball, football and kho-kho, besides yoga training. Environmental initiatives include plantation of 22,000 trees under the Miyawaki model, creation of a two-acre lake and cultivation of fruit-bearing and flowering plants. The project builds on the Mutt's Anna-Akshara-Dasoha tradition, with a focus on ensuring that meritorious rural girls are not kept out of higher education and competitive examinations due to financial constraints.
