Belagavi: A 45-year-old woman was seriously injured after she was allegedly stabbed by her son-in-law following a domestic dispute. The incident took place at Aaladakatti village of Savadatti taluk on Monday.
The injured was identified as Mahadevi Karigar. The accused, Arvind Gavali, 26, was arrested by the police on Tuesday and remanded to judicial custody.
According to the police, Arvind married Mahadevi's daughter about one and a half years ago. The couple has a 2-month-old baby, and his wife has been residing at her parental home since delivery. During this period, Arvind reportedly made repeated video calls to his wife, demanding that she show him the baby.
Police said Mahadevi informed her son-in-law that frequent use of mobile phones was not possible as the household members were occupied with daily chores. This reportedly led to heated arguments between the two. Enraged over this, Arvind allegedly went to his in-laws' house and attacked Mahadevi with a knife, before fleeing the spot.
Mahadevi was immediately rushed to BIMS Hospital in Belagavi, where she is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU). Doctors said her condition remains critical and she is under close medical observation.
A case has been registered at the Muragod police station, and further investigation is underway.
