Tuberculosis cases in Telangana
Officials informed the governor that more than 3.87 lakh vulnerable individuals were screened during the campaign, with 1.68 lakh chest X-rays conducted to identify potential TB cases. The exercise led to the detection of 7,663 new patients, underscoring the importance of active case finding in controlling the disease.
Challenges aheadWhile acknowledging steady progress, the governor cautioned that challenges remain, particularly in tribal and remote areas where patients often discontinue treatment, avoid diagnostic tests, or struggle with nutritional deficiencies.
The review highlighted the extensive infrastructure created by the state to combat TB. Telangana currently has 171 TB units, 435 TB detection centres, 191 rapid molecular testing facilities and 52 portable handheld X-ray devices. These facilities are designed to support early diagnosis and ensure timely treatment.
Governor Shukla said detailed reviews would be conducted at the district level to address local challenges and accelerate progress towards the goal of a ‘TB-free Telangana’.
