Announcing the release on social media, Netflix said: "After the success of IT company Satyam Computer Services, Ramalinga Raju's math didn't seem to be adding up. Watch the fourth episode of ‘Bad Boy Billionaires: India', out now, only on Netflix."
While the interim applications were disposed of, the main civil suit remains pending adjudication before the civil court.
In 2020, after Netflix announced the release of ‘Bad Boy Billionaires: India', featuring Raju, Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi and Subrata Roy, Raju approached court alleging that the series, purportedly based on his life and the Satyam scam, would unlawfully invade his privacy and cause serious reputational harm amounting to defamation.
The civil court subsequently restrained Netflix from airing the episode on him.
Netflix challenged the civil court order before the Telangana high court, which declined to interfere in the order and directed Netflix to move an application before the trial court seeking vacation of the interim stay.
The high court then directed the city civil court to decide the plea expeditiously, and disposed of the matter. Subsequently, the city civil court heard arguments from both sides and allowed Netflix's plea, paving the way for the release of the episode that had been on hold.
