NEW DELHI: A day after being suspended for alleged anti-party activities, BRS leader K Kavitha — daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao — on Wednesday quit both the party and her MLC post, alleging a conspiracy against her by a section of its leaders.Speaking to journalists in Hyderabad, Kavitha claimed that “few leaders in BRS are hostile” towards her and that “wrong cases” had been filed against her. She said the actions taken against her pointed to a larger conspiracy within the party.“Ever since my release from Tihar jail, I have been fighting for various causes,” Kavitha said, adding that she had not received justice from within her own party. She accused her detractors of targeting her for raising issues of “atrocities” and questioning certain decisions.Read also: What led to K Kavitha’s resignation from BRS: 10 key developments that triggered her move; what comes next? She asked her brother KTR not to believe cousins Harish Rao, Santosh Rao saying they are not party's well-wishers and alleged that the CBI probe was ordered against her father KCR due to corruption of Harish Rao, Santosh Rao.As per news agency PTI, Kavitha went on to say that her brother KT Rama Rao did not back her when malicious campaign was unleashed against her.The suspended MLC also called upon senior leaders of BRS to do introspection, stressing that the party’s current trajectory was deviating from its core values.
Kavitha’s remarks came a day after the BRS disciplinary committee suspended her for an “unspecified period” citing anti-party activities. Her ouster has triggered speculation about her next political move, including the possibility of launching a separate outfit. Here's what happenedKavitha has repeatedly alleged that Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar were responsible for dragging KCR’s name into the Kaleshwaram controversy, accusing them of striking clandestine deals with contractors. She also claimed chief minister A Revanth Reddy was backing her cousins. The Congress, meanwhile, dismissed the row. State party chief B Mahesh Kumar Goud said: “It is an internal affair of BRS. We do not respond to what happened in that party. As I said in the past, there is a dispute in KCR’s family about properties. That may have led to this suspension.” Kavitha, who leads the cultural organisation Telangana Jagruti, has been making critical remarks against some BRS leaders for months. The rift first surfaced in May when she alleged conspiracies after a letter she wrote to KCR was leaked. In August, she was removed as honorary president of the BRS-affiliated Singareni Collieries trade union. The suspension underscores the widening rift within the BRS and KCR’s family, with the party leadership now moving to sideline one of its most prominent faces.
