JAMSHEDPUR: A 15-year-old girl in Jamshedpur set herself on fire after a teacher in her school reportedly asked her to take off her clothes to check whether she was hiding a chit during an exam.The incident in Chayanagar under Sitaramdera police station limits on Friday, sent shockwaves after the girl tried to kill herself and was rushed to a hospital with 50 per cent burns.Police said the class nine girl student of Shardamani English School, Sakchi, was suspected of cheating in the science examination, earlier today, following which, the invigilator asked the minor girl to take off her clothes, but the girl resisted. But eventually she was made to remove the clothes.Devastated mentally, on the act of the invigilator, the girl rushed home after the school was over. She shut herself inside a room and set herself ablaze.Immediately, her parents rushed to her aid after hearing her screams and rescued her.“With over 50 per cent burn injuries, the girl was shifted to Tata Main Hospital for treatment,” said a witness.Her neighbour, Sangeeta Devi, said her parents learnt about the school incident, after classmates narrated the ordeal to them.
The school friends had come home and informed everything in detail, she said. Angry over the school teacher's conduct, the local residents have want action against the teacher. Akhilesh Mandal, the Sitaramdera police station In-charge said confirmed the incident and said: "Further details are being investigated."
