Kanpur: A 30-year-old man allegedly died by suicide by hanging in the Kalyanpur area of Kanpur late Saturday night, reportedly after being distressed over his wife staying at her parental home. Police recovered the body on Sunday morning and sent it for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway.
The deceased, identified as Jeetu, was a resident of Indira Nagar Rajkiya Unnayan Basti under the Kalyanpur police station limits. He is survived by his wife and their two children.
According to his father, Ramsingh, Jeetu had returned home on Saturday afternoon after a visit to Vaishno Devi. He said the couple often had disagreements and that Nisha had left for her maternal home with the children about four months ago and had not returned since.
Ramsingh alleged that Jeetu had been making repeated efforts to persuade his wife to come back. On Saturday night, he reportedly called his wife and requested her to return home, but an argument ensued during the conversation. Family members said Jeetu became deeply upset and stressed following the phone call. Later that night, he allegedly took the extreme step.
On Sunday morning, family members found Jeetu’s room locked from the inside. After repeated attempts brought no response, a family member looked through a window and saw Jeetu hanging from a noose.
Kalyanpur acting station in-charge Rais Ahmad said that “prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide.”
