Social media influencer Manasi found dead in Kanpur; family claims dowry harassment

KANPUR: Social media influencer Manasi was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Kanpur, with her family alleging dowry-related harassment and murder, claiming it was later projected as a suicide.The family has accused her husband Sagar Rajput and in-laws of torture and murder, alleging that she was repeatedly harassed over dowry demands.A protest was staged in Kanpur on Monday seeking justice for the deceased and demanding strict action against those accused.Priyanka Verma, the elder sister of the deceased, alleged that Manasi had been subjected to severe abuse over dowry demands.“There are stab marks on her legs. She was strangled; she was tortured over demands for dowry. We gave them everything they asked for. But they said they wanted a Fortuner and a Scorpio,” she said.Police have taken note of the allegations, and further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is underway.(With agency inputs)
