Collector asks local bodies expedite construction of MCFs

Kochi: District collector G Priyanka instructed that land transfer procedures should be urgently completed to expedite the construction of material collection facilities (MCFs) in the district.Collector directed officials to remove obstacles to the construction of MCFs in local self-govt institutions and complete the work within a specified timeframe. Along with MCFs, the operation of resource recovery facilities (RRFs) will be made efficient to sort and send inorganic waste for processing. Steps will be taken to provide govt land to panchayats that have not yet found land for MCFs. The meeting also discussed setting up sanitary landfill facilities for scientific waste processing. Collector instructed that waste management reviews be conducted at regular intervals to assess the progress of waste processing activities in the district. The operation of ‘Harithamithram' smart garbage app will be expanded to make waste collection and processing more transparent, Priyanka said. The review meeting held in district collector's chamber was attended by officials from revenue, local self-govt departments, and the Sanitation Mission.
