Colleague robs mishap victim

KOLKATA: Cossipore police on Thursday recovered the money of an accident victim and arrested her colleague for fleeing with the Rs 1.53 lakh cash and her jewellery.
“Shikha Chakraborty, who took a VRS from Bengal Immunity and with-drew the money from the bank, met with an accident on November 10 near Baranagar Kali temple.
While she died on the spot, her colleague Arun Das disappeared with the cash,� OC Anil Jana said.
Investigators had thought that the money might have been stolen after the accident. But on the basis of a complaint by Shikha’s mother Beena Chakraborty, they began a fresh probe. They found that Arun was not only aware of the money withdrawn from the bank, but also advised Shikha to deposit it in postal monthly income scheme.
Arun’s disappearance deepened the suspicion. On Thursday, they raided his house, arrested him and recovered the money and jewellery.
“Shikha’s family is in dire straits following the death of the only earning member. The money and jewellery would be of some relief for the family,� Jana said.
