KOLKATA: Former TMC MLA Sujoy Hazra was taken into custody on Sunday over allegations of extortion and forgery.Residents reportedly hurled eggs at a police vehicle carrying TMC leader Sujoy Hazra, alleging that he had taken money for housing construction but failed to deliver the promised houses.
“In 2021, he took 10 lakhs from a complainant named Imran and did not return it. Not only did he fail to return the money, but he also did not return the property, " public prosecutor Najim Habib said.According to public prosecutor Najim Habib, in 2021, Sujoy Hazra took Rs 10 lakh from a complainant named Imran and did not return it. He also failed to return the property despite repeated demands."Following the allegation, when the complainant went to the house of the accused, Sujoy Hazra refused him, there are many non-bailable sections applied, including 420, 406, 461, 472, 120B, and 409. Because it involves government property and forgery was committed, it turned into the criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of government property, " prosecutor Najim added.(With agency inputs)
