Plaint against BJP Barrackpore pick for threatening woman

Kolkata: A homemaker lodged a complaint with Titagarh police station on Saturday against BJP's Barrackpore candidate Koustav Bagchi, alleging that he threatened her during a door-to-door campaign visit to her residence. Police said an inquiry is underway and CCTV footage is being examined.

The complainant, Srabanti Sen of ward no. 24 in Barrackpore municipality, alleged that Bagchi visited her home as part of his campaign and asked about her voting preference.


When she indicated support for Trinamool, he allegedly became agitated and warned her of consequences after the election results on May 4. Disturbed by the encounter, she approached the police and filed a complaint.

Bagchi termed the allegations "completely false." "I was campaigning door-to-door and did visit her house. I requested her to vote for us. I realised she supports the Trinamool and she began listing various schemes. I told her she is free to vote for anyone, but one should not misbehave with visitors," he said.

He further accused sitting TMC MLA and Barrackpore candidate Raj Chakraborty of engineering the complaint. "Raj realised he is going to lose, which is why such baseless issues are being raised," Bagchi said.

Chakraborty responded: "BJP must understand that threats and violence are not part of Bengal's culture. Such tactics will not work. People will give a fitting reply through the ballot on April 29.'Get real-time updates and result insights on the CBSE 12 Result 2026.
