KOLKATA: The West Bengal cabinet underwent a major expansion on Monday, with 35 new ministers taking the oath of office at Lok Bhawan in Kolkata.With Governor R N Ravi administering the oath, the Council of Ministers expanded to 41 members under chief minister Suvendu Adhikari. The move is expected to strengthen the government's functioning and improve the delivery of governance across key sectors.
The cabinet expansion is being viewed as a major step aimed at reinforcing the state government's administrative setup and enhancing governance across key sectors.Among those sworn in as ministers were MLAs Dipak Barman, Arjun Singh, Shankar Ghosh, Gauri Shankar Ghosh, Tapash Roy, Manoj Kumar Oraon, Jagannath Chattopadhyay, Ajoy Poddar, Swapan Dasgupta, Dr Sharadwat Mukherjee and Kalyan Chakraborti.The swearing-in ceremony at Lok Bhawan marked a major expansion of the state cabinet, with the newly inducted ministers expected to take on key responsibilities across various departments of the government.The ceremony at Lok Bhawan reflects the growing responsibilities and portfolios being distributed among the new ministers.The cabinet expansion follows chief minister Suvendu Adhikari's announcement on Sunday that 35 more ministers would join the state government through a formal oath-taking ceremony.(With agency inputs)
