Deepak’s death: Accused’s bail plea deferred

Kozhikode: The Kozhikode sessions court on Monday deferred the bail plea of the woman who was arrested for abetment following the suicide of Govindapuram native U Deepak after she uploaded a video accusing him of sexual harassment during a private bus journey in Kannur. The case was deferred to Tuesday as the judge was on leave.The woman approached the sessions court after the Kunnamangalam magistrate court rejected her bail plea.The Kunnamangalam court had granted custody of the woman to the police for a day last week.The woman was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by Deepak's family, alleging abetment to suicide.Police said in her remand report that Deepak took his life amid severe mental distress and defamation over the uploading of the visuals on social media and because of fear that viewers would portray him as a sexual pervert.
