DYFI protests at Cong’s Wayanad housing site
Kozhikode: DYFI activists, led by state president V Vaseef, on Sunday erected a symbolic hut outside the site where Congress had laid the foundation stone for a housing project for Wayanad landslide victims at Kunnambatta. DYFI alleged that despite public funds being collected, construction was yet to begin. The activists marched to the site with a banner reading, "Where are the houses, Congress?"Vaseef alleged that Congress hadn't submitted the required application for the project and demanded transparency on public funds. "How much money was collected? Where is your app? Opposition leader previously claimed funds were in a joint account with KPCC president, but election affidavits show no such account," he added.KPCC president Sunny Joseph described DYFI's protest as ‘goondaism'. He said despite govt inaugurating the township project with much fanfare, a month has passed and the disaster-affected families still couldn't move in.Joseph alleged that the project was used merely as a PR exercise ahead of elections and CPM was exploiting the plight of disaster victims for political gain. The housing project Congress announced was specifically for those not included in govt's list and attempts to block the project had begun from the outset, he added.
