TN outfit hands over 14 homes to Wayanad landslide survivors
Kozhikode: In a gesture of solidarity reaching beyond state borders, the Tamil Nadu Jamaathul Ulama Sabha on Tuesday handed over the keys for 14 newly built houses to the survivors of the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslide. The key-handing ceremony was held at the project site at Nellimalam. Jamaathul Ulama Sabha president Khaja Mueenudheen Bakhavi handed over the keys while Kalpetta MLA T Siddique distributed the ownership documents to the beneficiaries. The 14 houses were built on plots of 6.5 cents each, with a built-up area of 850 sq ft. The cost per house, including land, is Rs 25 lakh. Each house includes two bedrooms, a hall, kitchen, two bathrooms and a sit-out. It has been designed so that an additional floor can be constructed in the future. The beneficiaries include families who directly suffered in the landslide but were not included in the govt's list of beneficiaries. Fourteen families were selected from among 23 whose rent has been paid by the Jamaathul Ulama Sabha over the past year. Since the day of the disaster, the Sabha has been active in Wayanad with various relief initiatives, coordinated under the supervision of Samastha Wayanad Coordination Committee.
Construction began on Nov 6, 2024, and the houses were completed by J S Constructions. Jamaathul Ulama Sabha general secretary Anvar Badusha Ulavi and treasurer Mujeeb Rahman Maslahi supervised the project. Samastha Coordination Committee chairperson S Muhammad Darimi, convener C P Harris Bakhavi, Shukkoor Bathery and contractor Jamsheer Bathery were felicitated at the function. Sunni Yuvajana Sangham state vice-president Ibrahim Faizi Peral delivered the keynote address.
