kanpur: the congress has blamed the bjp-led central government for kanpur loosing its image as the manchester of the east. the local leaders said that the government instead of making efforts for the reopening of the mills was making the condition of the mill workers worse. at a meeting held here at tilak hall, the congress leaders said that the when the congress was in power, it had made a plan for the revival of the ntc mills.it would have cost the rs 2005 crore. but the plan is at present gathering dust, the congress leaders said. the leaders have said that the central government was bent upon forcing the mill workers to starve but the congress (i) has said that they would raise their voice against the decision of the government to close the mills. the prominent leaders of the party who were present in the meeting included mp shreeprakash jaiswal, city congress (i) president abdul mannan, anand sharma, jagdish mishra etc.
