Puncture halt turns fatal, truck crushes driver & mechanic

TNNLudhiana: Two men, including a tyre mechanic, were killed after being hit by a speeding truck on GT Road near Barmalipur Chowk in Doraha on Thursday.Police said the mechanic was repairing the punctured tyre of a vehicle, while the other man, who was travelling in it, was standing nearby when the truck allegedly rammed into them.The deceased were identified as Rasal Singh of Kapurthala and Raghubir Singh of Palla village in Payal.Sources said Rasal Singh was travelling in a Bolero with an acquaintance when the vehicle developed a puncture near Barmalipur Chowk. A mechanic, Raghubir Singh, was called from a nearby shop. While he was fixing the tyre and Rasal Singh stood close by, a speeding truck allegedly hit them.Both men sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot.On receiving information, police reached the site, shifted the bodies and seized the truck involved. The bodies were later kept at the govt hospital mortuary for postmortem.SHO, Doraha inspector Akash Datt confirmed the deaths. He said a case has been registered against the driver, who has been identified.
