2 cops held for extorting money in Tirunelveli

Tirunelveli: Two police personnel from the Manimuthar battalion were arrested on Friday on charges of extortion at a beauty parlour in Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli city on Thursday.Police said the police personnel, Francis and Sethupathi Raja, arrived in Tirunelveli for election-related security assignments recently.On Thursday, the owner of the beauty parlour lodged a complaint at the Palayamkottai police station stating that the duo entered te shop in uniform and allegedly demanded money, citing their authority as personnel on election duty. When the owner resisted their demands, the duo reportedly resorted to intimidation, the complaint said.Upon receiving the complaint, police initiated an inquiry and questioned Francis and Sethupathi Raja. Subsquently, police arrested the duo. They were remanded in judicial custody.
