Cable TV body to challenge HC ruling
MUMBAI: The All India Cable Operators Association plans to move the Bombay high court challenging the same court's order banning telecast of films rated 'A' and 'UA' on television channels.
Roop Sharma, president of the association, told TOI that the Film Producers Guild too will join them in contesting the verdict.
"We have already sought the advice of a lot of legal experts and our people in Mumbai too have been speaking to lawyers and within a day or two will be moving the Bombay high court to challenge the ruling," she said.

Film producers including Mahesh Bhatt, Prakash Jha, Sudhir Mishra, Madhur Bhandarkar, Ashok Pandit and Shashi Ranjan have come together to discuss a plan to seek a stay against the ruling.
Vibhav Krishna, the advocate for the producers, said, "We are waiting for the copy of the order and will then be filing a petition either to clarify or modify the order."
The ruling, which bans screening of films that do not have a U certificate on cable TV, puts the onus on cable operators rather than satellite channels. If they do not ensure that no UA or A film is shown, their equipment would be seized by the police.
Sharma said the satellite channels had therefore not taken note of the ruling. "Even after the high court ruling, Sony Television was telecasting 'Parineeta'," she said.
"But operators will get into trouble for showing the film. I have told my people to blackout the channel for that much time," Sharma added.
