Mumbai: A 34-year-old autorickshaw driver lost his life after his vehicle crashed into the divider on the Western Express Highway at Dahisar East on Thursday night. Police said the driver, Swapnil Khade, could not control his vehicle, as per CCTV grabs and a video shot by an onlooker.
The incident occurred around 8 pm near Dahisar metro station. The auto was moving from the service road at Ghartanpada no. 2 towards a flyover on WEH’s south bound arm. Khade’s vehicle rammed into a cement divider and he suffered serious injuries.
An onlooker informed the Dahisar Police, following which a mobile van was rushed to the spot and Khade was rushed to the Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital at Kandivali. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Police then examined CCTV footage from the location. They also found an eyewitness, Adesh Bhawal, 19, who had shot a video clip of the crash. Police then concluded that no other motorist was responsible for the crash.
An FIR was registered against Khade for rash driving. With his death, the case will be closed.
Khade’s body was sent for an autopsy and police informed his family who are based out of Virar.
