MYSORE: Traffic in the city centre suffered on Wednesday, the last date for filing of nomination papers given the mad rush.
While it was district in-charge minister S A Ramdas' rally which choked the city centre last week, all three major political parties were culprits on Wednesday as their workers spilled on to the streets disrupting traffic.
However, the only exception was Congress candidate for Chamaraja, Vasu, who said: "The office of the returning officer is located in the MCC building on New Sayyaji Rao Road.
It is the lifeline of the city centre and is surrounded by educational institutions and commercial establishments. Taking out a procession would have choked the streets."
Former Muda chairman Nagendra offered prayers at Amrutheshwara temple on Dewan's Road and arrived in a procession along with MLC G Madhusudan and former MLC Thontadarya. JD(S) candidate for Krishnaraja, H Vasu too took out a rally.
Traffic on busy Hunsur Road was disrupted too when former minister G T Devegowda, the JD(S) candidate for Chamundeshwari, filed his nomination papers. The office of the RO is located at the Karnataka State Agricultural Marketing Training Institute, yards away from a private hospital. He arrived in a procession in an open vehicle accompanied by hundreds of his supporters. There were folk artists too. Police had a tough time near the Chamundeshwari RO office as JD(S) activists filled the busy stretch.
