NAGPUR: “Most of today’s youth find themselves comfortable in keeping silence over a lot of issues confronting the nation which is an alarming sign. Time has come that they come forward and react to the situation prevailing around us for betterment of the country,” said Amitabh Pawde, former executive engineer of Airports Authority of India.
Pawde, who addressed students of Dhanwate National College (DNC) to mark the birth anniversary of Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh on Tuesday, said that the first agriculture minister of India championed the cause of farmers in Parliament and ensured that benefits reached them.
PS Changole, head of the department of commerce said, “Deshmukh guided people on bringing more land under cultivation and irrigating farms. He stressed on crop economy which people seems to have forgotten. Changole urged students to read the biography of Deshmukh so that their doubts on farming and other aspects of agronomy could be cleared.
A rally was also organized from DNC to Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Agriculture College to pay tributes to the leader. Students and faculty of DNC and Shivaji Science College were present. Various academic, cultural and sports activities were held on the occasion. Essay writing, quiz, debate, elocution and singing competitions were organized.
On Tuesday, results of competitions were announced and winners were given certificates and mementos. DNC also released the reprint of Dr Deshmukh book ‘Jeevan va karya’.
