Nagpur: Mujammil Hasaan Ali, who was granted bail on Wednesday in a murder case after claiming he could not understand the grounds of arrest because they were explained in Marathi, was rearrested on Thursday after police verified that he had scored good marks in the language in school.
Mujammil allegedly stabbed his friend-turned-foe Salman Ansari, 22, to death on Sunday night at Tipu Sultan Chowk in Sangharsh Nagar over a one-sided love affair. Yashodhara Nagar police had arrested him and sought four days of police custody remand. However, the JMFC court on Wednesday rejected the plea and granted him bail, citing that the grounds of arrest were not properly conveyed in a language he understood. His defense argued he had studied only till Class 9 and knew only Hindi.
Police then visited Mujammil's school, confirmed his academic records showing proficiency in Marathi, and rearrested him. After a medical examination, senior inspector Yunus Chand Shaikh confirmed the rearrest. Mujammil will be produced before the court on Friday, said the senior inspector.
