Nagpur: In a significant step towards rehabilitation of families affected by the Mihan project, the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) has allotted developed plots to 116 eligible beneficiary families through a transparent lottery system. The beneficiaries, opting for the 12.5% developed land scheme, had paid the applicable development charges. As part of the process, plots were allocated through a lottery draw.Land belonging to farmers from Shivangaon was acquired for the Mihan project, and several decisions were taken as compensation, including the provision of 12.5% developed land to project-affected farmers. This decision was announced by then chief minister Ashok Chavan in State Legislature following protests by farmers, and a Government Resolution (GR) was subsequently issued.Addressing this long standing grievance, MADC completed the allotment process through a transparent lottery system. The draw was conducted in the presence of municipal commissioner Dr Vipin Itankar, who also serves as the vice-chairman and managing director of MADC. The entire process was carried out with strict adherence to rules and complete transparency.Officials stated that the issue was successfully resolved owing to the sensitive and people-centric approach of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with continuous guidance from revenue and guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
