Nagpur: Revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Thursday dared Congress state president Harshvardhan Sapkal to prove his allegation that Mahayuti pressured Congress's MLC poll candidate from Amravati for withdrawing from the contest.
Bawankule, also Amravati guardian minister, said Mahayuti had no need to engineer any withdrawal "when we already have the majority". "Show me one phone call, extract the data from the mobiles. Why would we even need to do this?" he said.
He added that Nagpur city Congress corporators have not yet publicly met to back their MLC candidate Atul Londhe. "These corporators in Nagpur are intelligent; they know there is no point in voting. It would have been better for Congress to simply withdraw and save everyone the trouble," said Bawankule.
On a separate front, Bawankule said he would place the Chandrapur paddy scam letters by MPCC chief whip Nana Patole before chief minister Devendra Fadnavis at the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday and push for an inquiry if Patole shared a copy with him.
