Panel formed to probe Dindori well accident that claimed 9 lives
Nashik: District collector Ayush Prasad has appointed an inquiry committee to investigate a road accident that occurred in the Dindori Nagar Panchayat area on the night of April 3, which resulted in the deaths of nine people, including six children, from the Dargode family of Indore village. The car the family was travelling in had plunged into an uncovered well in the road in the dark.The committee has been set up to determine the facts of the case and identify the factors that caused the accident. The probe was ordered to investigate the site conditions, work procedures, safety measures and administrative responsibilities regarding the conditions there.The committee is headed by Abhijit Kadam, the chief officer of the Sinnar Municipal Council, with Yashwant Patil, executive engineer of the municipal administration, serving as co-chairman. Other members include Rekha Vishwakarma, Ravindra Chavan and Vinod Jagtap.The committee is required to visit the accident site, record statements from relevant officials and workers, and examine the quality of work and the implementation of safety rules. Additionally, the committee is tasked with suggesting measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.The Collector has directed the committee to submit a detailed report within seven days. The Dindori Nagar Panchayat has been ordered to provide all necessary documents and records to assist in the investigation. The inquiry is conducted under the supervision of Shyam Gosavi, the district joint commissioner of municipal administration. The administration has said that action would be taken against those found responsible for any lapses.According to the site conditions, the concrete road was constructed right up to the edge of the well, which had a parapet wall barely a foot high. It is capable of only preventing the flow of rainwater into the well.
